I'm about 70 miles inland in Va. and Hurricane Isabel did some damage in my area a couple of years back. I believe she was a catagory 2 It was more of an issue of no power for three weeks, and much damage or destroyed homes more so from falling trees, etc. I have no idea how far inland you have to go to be somewhat safe from a Catagory 4 or 5 Hurricane, but do be careful.

Tom lives just north of Austin which is central Texas and about 200 miles from the coast. With the currently predicted landfall near the Texas / Louisiana border, Austin likely won't see much effect other than 30 - 40 mph winds and maybe some rain.
