Growing up my mom made it perfectly clear that the future of my snake collection depended on her never finding one where it didn't belong. Needless to say I was pretty carefull! But I had a similar situation with my cat. He got into my snake room without me noticing and opened up several drawers on my baby rack. He killed a few baby kings and left me half of a baby dumerils to find on the floor The next day I found the sole survivor, a yearling cal king under a bookshelf. I ended up putting in a finishing nail into the wood between each drawer and then bending it down over the edge to lock the drawer. That way I can spin the nail to the side to slide out the drawer.



Some things to try:



Seal the room imediately. Pull furniture away from walls, find any holes or cracks, make sure hes not inside, and duct tape them. Especially make sure he can't fit out under the closed door.



I have heard of people leaving a line of salt across doorways around the house. If the snake crawls through it he will leave a slide mark and you will be able to tell what room hes in.



Keeping a mouse in a cage in the corner is good too. Try moving it around to different rooms and keep a heat light or other heater near the mouse. I found my brothers boa that way, sitting right on top of the cage the next morning! obviously check anyplace else that could be warm.
