What is a good camera to purchase?

I am a boa breeder and a field herper and I need some advice on a good camera to purchase. I have a kodak easy share right now and it takes nice pictures but i want something that can produce more detailed pictures and also have a quick snap so I can take multiple pictures real quick to really catch what i am looking for in the subject. Nothing real expensive or cheap but efficient.
