the backdrop probably gives him a little feeling of safety. That's cool he seems to like it. I'm refurbing my ornate woods' tank, it'll have a backdrop, a sectioned off swimming hole, lots of deep substrate to dig, it'll be a regular luxury hotel for them.

Yours have a water hole yes? Alot of keeper dont realise they need a water hole to hang out, rehydrate, males like it for uh guy reasons, and they like to breed in the water. I think it makes it easier for them.
