My yearling southern painted is doing the same. I have noticed
my adults doing it once in a while but he is constantly doing
it. I have checked him over and he doesn't have a problem
with his leg that I can see. It almost looks like he is
picking food off of it???

Maybe someone else will post who has some answers.
