My turtle is biting himself.

jennelena Aug 08, 2007 10:22 PM

Yes, he seems to have a... condition where he is continually biting his right arm. This alone is disturbing, but lately his mouth seems to get stuck on his arm. He will swim in circles trying to break loose, and one time I had to lift him out of the water because it looked as if he was running out of air.

I have already looked up a vet to take him to, but I am unsure of whether they will be able to do anything. Is this something that has happened with other people's turtles? If so, I'd appreciate any insight concerning this... condition.

My yearling southern painted is doing the same. I have noticed
my adults doing it once in a while but he is constantly doing
it. I have checked him over and he doesn't have a problem
with his leg that I can see. It almost looks like he is
picking food off of it???

Maybe someone else will post who has some answers.

Maybe he has some sort of itchy parasite?

i have a bearded dragon that ate an inch of her own tail. i'm not positive, but i beleive it was because she wasn't getting enough protein in her diet.(when i bought her, she had only been fed crickets, so I was trying to switch her over to greens.)
point is, maybe your turtle isn't getting enough protein in its diet.
