Never heard of that treatment, though I haven't looked into mites much, never had them. But I have heard mites will come off using olive oil or Vaseline dabbed on them, they just pretty much suffocate and then fall off, :x Just watch that the gecko doesn't get any, and keep it well-hydrated.
