For my 6-foot Dum, I have used the following as hides:
-cork bark (big slabs aren't cheap but he likes them)
-a plastic dish-washing basin with a hole cut in one end (reusable and easy to clean)
-peat inserts for large hanging plant baskets (cheap, organic, easy to cut a hole in)
