At over a years age it is safer to sex the animal.I have never heard that you should never sex a chondro, only that you shouldnt sex one till its a year old. They are way to fragile and skinny at the lower third of thier body. Completely safe to do it after a year if done PROPERLY. Chondros are readily available all the time so if you need to aquire a mate after you find the sex of yours you wont have problems finding one. People are getting better at captive breeding these animals and are becoming more avaialable.
