I read that if u handle baby gtp carelessly, that snake eventually will have a kinky tail, is that right?
I just wanna know how the tail looks like cuz to be honest i never saw a kinky gtp tail before so i'd like to know, any of u guyz have pictures?

Can this kinky tail syndrome be noticed since childhood? If so, do you have a picture of a baby with normal tail and a kinky one?
I handle my baby here just like once a week to do a full-body checkup or when i clean the enclosure but i take the baby off the perch really really carefully, does this still make the tail kink?
Thanks ^^

Btw, thanks to everyone especially MegF who gave great advice bout feeding baby gtp and now my baby keeps eating. Although it never strike (just open the mouth and swallow the food), the fact is that the baby eats regularly, thanks guyz ^^

Although a kinky tail can result from forceably removing an animal from its perch the injury is more likely the result of sexing a very young gtp(under the age of 1) y using the "popping"method. This obviously should never be done to young animals because of possible spinal injurys like kinked tails. Thay also may not appear right away and could take several months to become visible. There have been many documented case of kinked tail animals having no problems breeding and laying viable eggs but there have also been cases of partial body paralasys that led to death. Moral of the story never attempt to sex a baby gtp and never buy a gtp under one year old that has been sexed no matter what the breeder/seller tells you about how great his technique is!
I unfortunately do not have any pics of one but i did see a pic of an adult male w a kinked tail in Greg Maxwells complete chondro book once.
Hope this helps

well i usually take the snake off the perch really carefully and tickle its tail so that the snake moves on its own and i don't pull it off the perch.
But i still have some worries it may have a kinked tail as mentioned..

Does anybody else have the picture?
Well how long is gtp gonna be when it's already a year old?
I heard that gtp should not be sexed at all? is it true? Based on what i heard we can determine gtp's genders by looking at the cloaca spurs, is it true?

With proper husbandry it should get 2-3 ft long. If you plan on keeping and possibly breeding in the future you should no doubtedly invest in Maxwells book-The complete chondro. I actually recently saw it being sold used on fauna classifieds for about half price slughtly used. Well worth it. At over a years age it is safer to sex the animal.I have never heard that you should never sex a chondro, only that you shouldnt sex one till its a year old. They are way to fragile and skinny at the lower third of thier body. Completely safe to do it after a year if done PROPERLY. If you dont need to know right away then it is better to wait till they are a little bigger. Dont do it yourself if you dont know how. I paid a guy at a reptile show to sex mine. I was too nervous to inflict injury. Cloacal spurs is NOT a definitive way to sex GTP. Only proper probing or popping will do it. Since chondros arent sexually mature till about 3 yrs old anyway then there shouldnt be a huge rush. Chondros are readily available all the time so if you need to aquire a mate after you find the sex of yours you wont have problems finding one. People are getting better at captive breeding these animals and are becoming more avaialable. I have also been seeing great deals on sexed adult pairs too for those who dont want to raise thier own. hOPE THIS HELPS
