Thanks! No, I didn't check -- guess that was too obvious . My guess, just from looking at the photos & descriptions: brown snake. At least I'm feeling more confident that it wasn't venomous (ie, copperhead).

We have a lot of neat snakes in LA! In all, think I've only seen 3 or 4 different kind in the wild. But then, I like the 4-legged reptiles...
