I have seen black rats with lots of red between the scales from Northern Louisiana, Missouri, and Kansas.
Southern Mississippi has gray/Texas rat type things. Here is a photo of a rat snake from Amite County, Mississippi. Not all the ones in this area are as unattractive as this snake. We found a DOR with a bright yellow background.
