Good guess, Rainshadow! The location of the rescue was Cave Junction, Oregon, which as one can see by the map is close to Northern California.

Zero last spring, a lot bigger now (Eating Machine!) but currently brumating.
She was found in the basement of a bank in Cave Junction, Oregon in the fall of 2011. My friend Herb was visiting friends at the bank when a bank employee came up from the basement saying there's a rattlesnake down there! The janitor went down wearing a big oven mitt and caught her, and immediately my friend saw it was just a harmless gopher snake, so he brought her home. He isn't into pits so he gave her to me last February. I have named her Zero for zero interest rate, as she was a freebie. Best deal I have ever gotten out of a bank! LOL!
