The baby Pacifics at feeding time this morning. They are the only snakes I have not in brumation; they hatched so late in the season I wanted them to put on some growth before any brumation attempts. Its fun to have at least some snakes to enjoy during the winter. This group feeding has worked out well, although I would not recommend it generally. Two of the five babies were extremely shy and would not eat in feeding containers, hence just keep them all together and feed them this way, enough for everybody. All have grown nicely.

Nice gophers Bob,where did those originate from?

Parents of the babies last year. They are a captive bred pair I got as hatchlings from a guy in Florida in 2008. The five were their first clutch. I don't know where the breeder got his original stock from.

I think they are prettier than the usual Pacifics I find in my neck of the woods. Also I generally don't like to take wild animals out of the wild.

An unrelated rescue from Oregon which a friend gave me. I am guessing perhaps my adult pair's ancestors are from the Oregon area as they look a lot like the Oregon rescue.

Extreme Northern California, they look similar to animals I found in and around Shasta county.(more years ago than I care to confess.)

Good guess, Rainshadow! The location of the rescue was Cave Junction, Oregon, which as one can see by the map is close to Northern California.

Zero last spring, a lot bigger now (Eating Machine!) but currently brumating.
She was found in the basement of a bank in Cave Junction, Oregon in the fall of 2011. My friend Herb was visiting friends at the bank when a bank employee came up from the basement saying there's a rattlesnake down there! The janitor went down wearing a big oven mitt and caught her, and immediately my friend saw it was just a harmless gopher snake, so he brought her home. He isn't into pits so he gave her to me last February. I have named her Zero for zero interest rate, as she was a freebie. Best deal I have ever gotten out of a bank! LOL!

Thanks, Billy! Am happy to have this wc animal without having to take one out of the wild. Had my friend the herps keeper not been at the bank that day this snake might have been killed.

Here she is this morning in her quart Glad container moss hide (which is in a larger container), still in brumation but looking pretty robust. One more month and I will begin waking them all up.

That's a fun pic! Don't you get worried they will strangle each other? Great looking animals too.

Thanks, Jason!
I am not worried they will harm each other. I put enough food for everyone, and monitor their growth to make sure everyone is eating enough. When they are hungry they come out from under their box hide and hang out at the water bowl, about once a week. They are growing so fast soon I am going to have to do other housing arrangements, but this communal thing has got them through the winter without having to use a lot of electricity for heat. Am off grid and power is always an issue.
