IMHO these "Types" are just naturally occuring color and pattern phases that occur within species/subspecies but I do think it is a real phenomenon, wherin certain traits are usually linked together to form distinct phases or "Types". I think it is underecognized in the hobby and actually is common in the wild amongst all montane kingsnakes and possibly milksnakes too. I think it is more than just locality differences because different phases can occur within one locality.

I have some very early L. p. knoblochi that I originally purchased in 1996 and I can get all three "Types" from the same clutch.
