Type differences in L.p. knoblochi

sschind Mar 07, 2013 03:29 PM

I've been looking for a good site with side by side photos to show the difference between the three types of knoblochi. I have a trio and I can't really tell if they are are different types or not. the patterns look similar but the color on the female is so much brighter. Any help would be appreciated. Also, I'd like to see if I can find some discussion or descriptions as to the different types as well. Telling me what mine are is very helpful and I will appreciate it greatly but teach a man to fish as they say. Anyway, here are my snakes. Thanks. Steve

Take a look at this link. It has pics and descriptions of the three types.

I believe the Type I, Type II and Type III thing was started by Steve Osbourne of Professional Breeders. This is the same link that mrkent posted - http://www.probreeders.com/htm10/tarahumara.html

IMHO these "Types" are just naturally occuring color and pattern phases that occur within species/subspecies but I do think it is a real phenomenon, wherin certain traits are usually linked together to form distinct phases or "Types". I think it is underecognized in the hobby and actually is common in the wild amongst all montane kingsnakes and possibly milksnakes too. I think it is more than just locality differences because different phases can occur within one locality.

I have some very early L. p. knoblochi that I originally purchased in 1996 and I can get all three "Types" from the same clutch.

Hey KC Trader-- great info on the knobs. Do you have any locality data on the line that Buzz Ross brought back?
