Couldn't leave you with those close-ups!

Here is a better close-up. Also, I included a picture of her tank. As you can see, I have 3/4 of the screen top covered to hold in moisture. I shine a UV light through the uncovered part to create a basking spot.

Looks good. Nice looking snake. One suggestion I have is a larger water bowl. A lot of the candoia species will use a large water bowl for soaking from time to time.

From the photos I would say it is Candoia Carinata carinata (Pacific OR New Guinea Tree Boa also sometimes called solomon island tree boa)

I would try to feed it an anole or tree frog just to get it eating. Then try to switch it to mice once you have a snake that eats for you.

Good luck and keep us posted!!

Ok, she ate an Anole thursday night. How many more would you recommend before I try the switch? Also, Jerry Conway's site states that I should wait 4-6 weeks after feeding an Anole before I try the switch. Any tips? Thank you for your help.

Well depending on the availablity of Anoles and the $$ I would try senting live mice with anoles in about a week. I have a male that I am just finally getting to take mice bi-weekly (after 1 yr of tree frog mice combinations) Now I just dip the mouse in a bit of water and rub on the frog (Water seems to help get the smell to stick to the mouse??)

I give most my success to "starving" my male....(something I heard from a candoia breeder) Just stopped feeding frogs and only offered sented mice...after about 2 months of nothing....he started taking them...figured he just got really hungry...

I also feed in a seperate small container, so the snake has no choice but to notice the mouse.

Keep us posted....

I find leaving the snake with the mouse over night to be necessary. Just make sure the mouse isn't bigger than a fuzzy otherwise it can bite and hurt the snake.

For some reason my male has been eating the mouse on the second night of being with it. Maybe after 48 hours he just wants out of the small container?

Good luck,

Chris

Yeah, we feed all of our snakes in separate containers. I will try the switch next week. Lasy time I didn't try the water trick.

Two more questions:

1. Should I use a treefrog to scent (have one available), or try another anole since she has recognized those as food?

2. Is there any hope of getting her on f/t right away?

BTW Chris, we were checking out your webpage and you have some beautiful animals! We will be looking for a male KSB for our two females pretty soon. We might be giving you a call in the future,

Thanks again,

Diego & Tiffany,

Thanks for the compliment on my animals! Let me know if you do decide to get a male. At the moment I only have babies: 1 albino 66% het snow, and a snow male....Should have more normals/abinos/and snows mid to late summer. I might also have a normal male avaiable later this year.

As far as the candoia, I would stick with the anole for scenting because that is what it has eaten. You can try the f/t but I find my candoia like to see there food moving, so unless it will take it from a tongs(which at this point I doubt)it may be tough. My adults do take f/t but I have to wiggle the mouse around for a min or two. But by all means give it a try...you never know. Just remember to only use pinkies or fuzzes because hoppers will bite back if the snake doesn't eat it.

Good luck and keep us posted!!
