U. pietschammi chirping

mphelps Apr 17, 2006 08:33 PM

What do the vocalizations of U. pietschammi sound like?

My male U. pietschammi chirps frequently. It is a breathy, metallic "hank." I thought this was the normal sound. But a couple nights ago I also heard a distinct chirp. It wasn't breathy at all. It was a loud, clear-toned, high-pitched "pulse." I heard it again last night.

Unless this chirp came from a bird outside, it is the female U. pietschammi. So, either females chirp differently than males or my male has a very poor voice.

My CB males chirp in the same way you described almost every night after I spray them . Not really sure why they do it, it seems to sort of be a reflex, like frogs croaking in a rain shower.
