I see how my daughters bearded sorta,"hey it's you" ,expression lights up when she walks up.Does anyone here every see any such thing with HL's.I use a lid, to put ants in ,in their enclosure.I am starting to see some behavior as to them connecting it with,"more ants".They surround it and pick them off. Then the next time, they run like heck to the other end of the tank.thanks,scott.

Though they are much more instinctual and jumpy, and some might argue, less intelligent than say box turtles, tortoises, and other iguanids; I am seeing that they can be conditioned to a degree. I don't know if he recognizes me specifically, or he just doesn't see people as a threat much anymore, but my solare exhibits nearly no defensive behavior anymore. No puffing when he is picked up, not much horn tilting, no running when you go to pick him up, etc. Unless something else is going on and he is already stressed. And he tilts his head up and eyeballs what's going on. He knows when it's food time.

Hey Scott,
I agree with FS3 in that these are not the brightest lizards in the reptile world. LOL I don't know that mine recognize me, but they do learn to recognize that food comes from me. When I go out to feed in the large cage I bang around a little and the bushes start moving with HL's coming out from their naps to eat.
Captive born lizards really have a much more relaxed attitude when it comes to me disturbing them. I can reach down to pick up my two cornutum (about a year old now) and they won't run unless I look to aggressive in going after them. Solare hatchlings are even more so.
Hope this helps.
