Do you have him on reptibark or some other "dusty" material? After being on reptibark my bp used to make a "popping" sound when he would exhale. It could also be a piece of stuck shed in the nostrils. Is there mucus in the nose or the mouth? That would be indicative of an r.i.

"You can only take my money for so long. And then I don't have anymore, and then I get angry!"
Yes, I did - reptibark, then jungle earth! I changed his substrate to aspen on Saturday - maybe I need to give it a couple days. He does not have any mucous, wet nose, nor does he open his mouth to breathe. I tried listening near his cage a little while ago - I only hear it when I'm holding him. He is a radiated rat snake and I have heard they are temperamental - so maybe it's a defense thing. If I see any indication of a URI (mucous, lack of eating, sneezing, etc.) I will take him to a vet - we have a good one here in Memphis for reptiles.
Try raising the humidity.

If lead paint is so deadly why do they make it so delicious?

Agree there... what humidity are you keeping them at ?
remember that this species basically inhabits rain forests in the wild so like it nice and humid.
I keep mine on sphagnum peat moss ... a tip given to me by another keeper ... ideal for them as it retains moisture but does not become 'wet' and cause scale rot... clumps brilliantly too. Just lift it out as one lump when spot cleaning.
I just moved him from repti-bark to aspen. He is shedding right now - and is having a rough time, which I have heard is common for them. I spray him a couple times a day with some skin conditioner and water - and spray his tank. I held him last night and did not notice the clicking noise - I will hold him again tomorrow and see what I hear.
