Good at being handled?

UroTamer Oct 15, 2006 11:51 PM

What types of amphibians don't mind being handled? Some types are obvious you can't handle them. Which ones can you?
I'm planning on starting an educational program to build awareness of reptiles and amphibians, and the importance of planning and caring for them properly. So I want something I can show, even for a few minutes, to help teach.
Thanks.

The only frog I could suggest is a White's tree frog. They are docile and easily handled. That said, it doesn't mean they should be handled regularily. Our hands have all sorts of gross stuff on them that can easily harm or kill a frog. Nevermind that even a white's will get stressed if handled too often. There aren't very many other frogs that would be so forgiving though.

no amphib, likes beingh handeled, but certain ones don't mind as much as others, whites treefrogs would probally be your best bet. i have fire belly toads and 2/3 don't mind being held at all, but i don't think the majority of them are like this. african bullfrogs are ok to use, and thats all i can think of. other amphibs. are newts, i have a california newt and he doesn't mind. good luck!

White's tree frogs are extemely calm when handled if you do it regularly, say once a week. But really do make sure you wash your hands as well as possible first. It's also easy to tell when they're going to jump (although they wont do it too much).
Your program sounds like a wonderful idea.
I wish you luck with it.
