I think I made a BIG mistake- HELP!?!

jinnieski Oct 19, 2006 04:02 PM

I just got back from visiting my mom and my fiance apparently "messed with the toad" while it was hibernating. He thought it was freezing to death and starving so he took it out of its little plastic cage with the bed-a-beast and transfered it to a large aquarium with just water, glass gems and some flat rocks. He says it was cold and stiff and he thought its skin was too dry. It hasn't eaten in about 2 weeks and its only 5 or six months old! What do I do now? Its getting really skinny and has NO interest in food. Please help us?

Well, it's about that the time of the year where it's getting colder in some parts of the country so it's normal behavior for them to go into estivation. The frog shouldn't have been disturbed. Try raising the temperature around the frog to 75-82F. This should stimulate appetite and the frog should eat. Be sure to keep the temperatures up even after feeding to allow for digestion. After about a week you can remove the heat source and the frog should go back to estivating. This time don't bother the poor thing.
