With Dumerils, most of us just go with the spur method. Males HAVE spurs, Females DO NOT. Here and there people will argue this, but I have never seen a female with spurs, and I have seen a TON of Dumerils. When I have seen people at shows try to sex Dumerils by either popping or probing, they have been accurate about 50% of the time. Hope that helps, take care

He already explained it! In dumeril's, males have spurs (vestigal legs located by their vent), females do not have visable spurs.

I see. Wasn't exactly sure what "spurs" was. Still kind of new to this. Thanks...

you can see the spurs without popping? its external?

Guys! I'm glad you are learning about these things, but spurs are a basic part of boa/python anatomy. In many pythons, the spur size is the same for males and females. In most boas, the spurs are larger in males than females, but in dumeril's, females do not have these spurs visable at all. Spurs are hooks by the snake's vent, they are attached to a pelvis.

No spurs in a female BCI:

*Let me know if you cannot see them!

Here's another one you might not know yet. I think this is EXTREMELY EASY on boas (BCI/common boas), but some people can't seem to do it. Anyway, here it is. Take your index finger and place it directly on the snakes vent/cloaca/pooshoot-lol and put your thumb directy inline with your index finger, but on top of the snake. Slowly slide your "pinched" finger/thumb toward the tip of the tail. In males, after a little way you'll feel a little "bump bump"(feels like B.B.'s). Females will start thick and almost immediately you'll feel your fingers drop off and never feel the "B.B." affect. It can be done with Dumerils as well, but it's not as distinct. Take care

Paul
