Still too young to tell for sure. Possibly female from the size imo, but wait a few more months to be sure.

Hello:
I agree, the dragon is a little small but I'm going to guess it's a young male for two resons; 1.) The pink developing on the jawline and a little coloring coming up from the ventral and 2.) The dark lines developing behind the eyes. Many male dragons have this secondary characteristic as well.
No matter what it turns out to be it is a great looking young Dragon. I like the nice blue sidestripes.
Have a Great Day!!!

i too would say that it was a young male, and a very good looking one at that.
female water dragons tend to lose the blue coloured stripes early on, or they fade. the dark lines behind the eyes are a little bit of a tell tale, but really i find that while the female has an equine, long face, the male tends to look more like a dinosaur with a snubbier nose.

only one way to tell and i would wait for a while before getting this done and that would be a probe.
best of luck finding out, it is gorgeous anyway.
Rachel.

It is definitely too early to tell. I vote female tho. My female is three and a half - does have some pink coloring on her jaw, as well as a dark stripe behind her eyes. She has laid four clutches this year - most definitely female, lol.

You have guessed on age, but what about size? Length from snout to vent, and length from snout to tip of tail??

clouddancer22 Apr 15, 2007 03:16 PM

Oh I don't know, looking again, could be male as well judging by the base of the tail. How about a pic of the underside? Are femoral pores visable?

kellybee Apr 16, 2007 02:02 PM

Hey thanks, I have to say, we have no pic of the underside at t he mo, and being in the UK, all the animals are in bed. I can possibly take one another day but will post it when I do, it doesnt matter so much I guess for the time being, I was just curious as we have two, and they are likely going to have to be separated if males

I'll tell him (kind of habit calling it a him, considering we dont know, I just dont like to call him "it" that you passed on your compliments, I too think he is beautiful, and also hilarious.

My guess is female... actually males tend to have the longer muzzles.. and coloring under the chin has nothing to do with it most of time.. the black eye stripe both genders get, although tends to be darker on males.. it looks female to me, thats just an early guess though.
