argentine vs blue

hawiiangecko Apr 09, 2007 09:30 PM

i've been thinking about a blue, but i also love argentines and they are so much easier to get. i wanted to know how much bigger argentines get as compared to blues. i hae am 8'x2'x2' cage i built a couple of weeks ago and am building a 6'x2'x2' now. would the 8' one be able to handle an argentine?

8 feet is a great lenght for a black and white but at only 2' wide i'd be alittle concern, both cages though would be perfect for a blue although i've notice the trend that blues aren't staying as small as they use to, lol. Maybe someone else will shine some more light on this issue becuase i'm more of a blues person not so much a black and white.

I took a risk and got mine from an unkown breeder on the kingsnake classifies and got really lucky. Um I know Sissco Reptiles throws some really nice blues for a descent price and is now taking deposits. Unfortuntly i don't know if thebluetegu is producing any this season, they have run into some bad luck i've heard but contacting them is the best way to find out. let me check for sissco's website and then i'll repost it.

It looks like Sisco might already have already filled his deposit quota for the time being. Here's his web site though http://www.siscoreptiles.com/available.php maybe he can put you on a waiting list.

also JL Exotics specilizes in blues and produced some killer animals last year. Although he hasn't updated his page for awhile his contact info should still be uptodate. http://www.freewebs.com/jlexotics/available.htm

Right now is not a good time to find a blue tegu forsale either, unless its from someone who bought it last year and now thinks its too much work. They hatch in july to spetember and normally are sold out by January. The good news is more and more people are breeding them, i would except i can't find a female.

The two breeders i mention often vist thetegu to help people out in the forum there and some people post tegus forsale. This are pet/breeder animals meaning someone has taken good care of them and its not just been in a cage for the last 6 months. I would suggest joining the site and just taking a look around. Not to mention if you have any questions thetegu.com gets alot more action then this tegu forum.

Sisco reptiles has not to my knowledge ever produced blues. The blues that Rick sold last year were blues that he purchased from another breeder and then resold.

Blue tegus hatch in the fall. So if you're looking for a baby, you'll have to wait a few more months.
