We have an almost 3 year old male. Laid back and very sweet. He doesn't mind being handled at all, and is very popular with our kids friends.

Overall, as adults they are very similar to other mid bodied boas. They are usually easy to handle once you get used to the size.

Luckily, even nervous dums don't usually strike, but they are movers, and can be more difficult to control especially when full grown.

i have a young male and female, the male was very nippy and would strike quite a bit, now about 3 months later he's calmed down some but still strikes every now and then especially during and after feeding, ive just learned to wear gloves and let him do it so he learnes it wont keep me from picking him up. the female has never struck once

Do his bites actually hurt? I don't bother with gloves, as I don't mind it if the little guys give me a nip or two....but then again I am used to messing around with larger more aggressive snakes. Baby dums that are in "feeding mode" especially those who think they are hiding...are more likely to strike. It is not super common to have a baby who likes to strike after being removed from it's enclosure.
