Phelsuma Mad. Mad. with Cuban Trees?

blackmamba86 Jun 14, 2007 11:01 AM

Hi everyone!

I have a female phelsuma mad. mad. in an extra large exo terra tank. I also have two cuban tree frogs in a ten gallon. Recently, there has been a 50% rate hike in electricity prices for my area. I have been concidering putting the two cuban trees in with the mad. mad. to conserve power. Is this pheasable?

Well, we raise mad mads, so if she is adult size and healthy - she should be able to outrun almost anything. However - keep in mind that she sleeps at night - so you wouldn't want her to be in with nocturnal predators.

I don't know much about your tree frogs - but I do know that we had a 1-1/2" pacific tree frog in with some smaller day geckos and everything was fine until I saw the frog trying to eat the tail of one gecko (day geckos wiggle their tails like worms). That made the difference - the frog was moved that day.

I think everyone would agree that it is not a good idea to mix species that can eat the other and some tree frogs are very predatory.

Good luck!

if you know that your cubans wont eat the day gecko, they will be fine together. i used to raise mad mads and i have kept them with green tree frogs in the past. i have had adult standings with a big whites tree frog and they were fine. as long as you know she wont get eaten it will be fine. also the tree frogs will contaminate the water bowl with urine so you should mist a couple times a day.
