3 tailed Anole?

fudrick Jul 24, 2007 07:02 PM

I found a small/medium sized (about 4 inches with the tail)on my porch that has a normal tail, but then growing out of the right side of the original tail at the base of it, it has another fully formed tail that is the same size as the first. But that's not all. Growing off the right side of the second tail is another tail that is only about 1/4 of an inch long but it is clearly a tail and seems like it's growing in. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this? I don't have a picture on the computer but if you want I could try to upload one. Thanks to anyone who replies.

I forgot to ask for any good tips or requirements to help Brown Anoles live good healthy lives as I would hate for it to die since it seems so rare, at least to me. So basically like size of the tank (I have a spare 10 gallon, is that good?), stuff to put in the tank (I have some small sticks and flat rocks that I decided not to use in my Beardies' tanks, food (it ate a 1/4 inch cricket and a mealworm slightly less than 1 inch, is that good for a daily meal? BTW he ate the mealworm much more aggressively) sexing, and anything else I should know.

It is the result of an incompletely broken off tail. It isn't uncommon to see an Anole with a forked or treble tail.

Sorry for double post but could you tell me some things I should know about keeping an Anole?

they are standard in the pet industry.

easier than beardies.

around 80f in the tank...around 95-100f in the basking area.

make sure you have a uvb bulb on them...its SO important for all reptiles.

crickets and mealworms/wax/super are all fine.

those huge moths that get into your house you can feed those too.
just make sure whenever your feeding isnt bigger than the little guys mouth.

give them calcium dusted crickets once a week.

lots of sticks and leaves and good stuff to hide in.

make sure they are warm... a bigger water dish.. they love to soak. mine actually has a air pump hooked to it.. so it bubbles.

anyways, hope this helps.

and your tails are from the guy dropping his tail...but not all the way.. it healed a new one started growing... then it probably happened again.. its not uncommon but its strange that he still has it.
