Has anyone here tried using reptariums to keep tokays. I have a 100 gallon reptarium that I never got around to filling and was thinkink about setting up a small group of tokays in there. The only problem I can think of would be humidity but I will probably use an automatic mister. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

I used one for a little while. Seemed "alright" the humidity was crap in them though. The animals didnt really know what to think of it for the first few weeks. Mine went off breeding too. I put them in a 24x18x24 Exo and they loved it. I highly recommend exo-terra tanks. They cost a little more but you get what you pay for. With the exo the humidity stays where I dont even have to take the eggs out to incubate them.

I see them as a reasonable enclosure. As long as you don't wan't to really veiw your babys. Any enclosure that allwos proper air movment and ventalatin is going to be a humidity problem I guess. I think we as humans though misconsee humidity. I live in northwest Ohio and our natural humidity here summer spring and fall months is above 85 most of the time. Winter it lowers cause of the cold freezing it out of the outside air and the inside heat drying it. I made a hell of a mister by using mist jets, 1/4 tubing, a garden hose style lawn sprinkler timer and a garden sprayer.
I see an ideal Tokay cage as a 55 gallon tank setting 48' tall and a wire mesh lid on the front. They like the height over lenghth.

There are ways of getting the humidity to stay. Some, like I have before use saran wrap around the plastic tubes but I say experiment. I only see the problem being that you say you wanna put more than what seemed to be a pair in it. I would just stick to a male and a female and sometimes that even may get hairy.

Also use lots of live plants and such like pothos. keep them in the pots along the bottom and keep them watered good. This will help create some good humidity but try your best at getting some big pots.

Oh one other problem is using a UTH on them is almost impossible. I eventually switched to glass for this reason. Using a good size UTH on the bottom with a good substrate that stays moist will help humidity greatly in this case.
