Melanistic Caspian Whipsnakes

coluber Oct 19, 2007 03:43 PM

Hi Guys
I just obtained 2 of these fellas (both males)..there have been a few imported to the U.K. and they are not selling too well ,probably due to the fact that not many people keep racers or whips here,so they tend to spend a long time in pet-shops not being given their diurnal requirements like light (for 1 thing!!)
They need a little TLC from people who know about them like ourselves. Will keep you informed how they are doing.

Not sure if they are Coluber jugularis or caspius yet!...may need your help Benjamin on this one?

Regards Paul

Thanks Gilian
Good news! now they are both feeding for me...it seems they were imported to the U.K. from Syria!!
I think I've pinned them down now to 'Coluber Jugularis'...known locally as the Syrian black snake. However C.jugularis is'nt always black.
Nice snakes but very shy compared to my 'Coluber constictor'!!

Very nice that they both ate!

Do you keep them in plastic boxes?
Any pictures of that?

At the moment I have the 2 C.jugularis in my homemade 'hospital viv.'...one on the top floor ,one on the bottom. This is because they are new to me and I like to monitor feeding and excreating
for a while....hence the newspaper substrate.
They will go into vivariums ...I generally only use plastic-tubs when the snakes are cooling.

regards Paul
