Axel_my_baby Nov 03, 2007 10:47 PM

I am looking into breeding Alligator Lizards and wanted to look into alligator lizard laws....isn't there a law that you cannot sell them in California...and are there any other laws?

Thank you and I GREATLY appreciate it!

It is illegal to sell native reptiles in California. You are allowed to collect two with the purchase of a fishing license. You can apply for and obtain a captive propagation permit if you want to breed which I believe would allow you to keep up to 30 (you're still only allowed 2 wild caughts). Even with the permit you will not be able to sell offspring and any recipient of your offspring must stay within their bag limit (2). Witout the permit, I think you have 45 days to dispose of any offspring that put you over the two alligator lizard limit. Release of offspring or wild caughts that have been taken into captivity is illegal without special permission from the CDFG.

Yes, that only applies in California. In other states where alligator lizards are native, they would have different laws governing them that I am not familiar with.
