is this true?

I have two juvenile argentine b&w tegus and i was told that the males have two visible larger scales just below the vent and the females do not. Is this true? I need help sexing these two, they are around 6" to 8" stv and have no more green coloring.

Yes. On either side.

I have seen them on babies, using an 8X Peak loupe. Each one looks like a rosette scale that's out of place among the other scales.

Row after row of similar scales, but one is noticeably different on each side of the vent. Each grows into a BB-sized bump when the male tegu matures.

You'll need strong magnification and a crisp loupe to see the two on a hatchling. But if you know where to look you will see them.
