Sexing Plated Lizards

R0NST3R Nov 29, 2007 09:36 AM

I have noticed alot of people wanting to sex their plated's. From what I have read up and what I have been told you go by the spores on their back legs. Males have spores (that kinda look like a comb) on their back legs. Females may also have these but they aren't as noticeable.

I have took a picture of my male to show an example. It is poor quality but you can see the spores

That is a MALE! Those are what I call "waxy Spiral Secretions from the Males' Femoral pores". Even though the picture is blurry I can also very slighty see the bulging of Hemipenes about 1/8" down from vent. Let me know where you see the two Hemipenes? This is a Breeding age MALE.

Look back down the Plated Lizard Forum at my past postings and you will see that You know how to Sex this species that you have.

Will be available for more questions if you have any.
