Gecko Missing TOES!

enotnac May 08, 2008 01:42 PM

Hello all-
I just bought a Crested Gecko and he is missing all his toes on the right foot. Will he be ok in the long run? I know they wont grow back.
Also he has a crease on his tail, almost looks like the cage lid had closed on it, Im not sure what to do, the guy at the reptile house said he would trade me for another, but if he is going to be ok then ill keep him....PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR ADVICE!
Thanks,

as long as the toes are healed, he should be fine. make sure the tail doesn't get infected or you may have to make him drop it, but if it's healed, it will be fine as well. does he have any swollen limbs/jaw or kinks in his tail or spine? is he a good weight? what are you feeding him?

He seems to be ok weight wise, he is a baby about 2 1/2 inches long! His tail looks like maybe when he shed the skin didnt finish coming off, it looks like it healed that way or is in the process of healing. The tip with the flat end is grayish colored not sure what to do. Otherwise hes very active, and friendly. Eats Repashy, im going to try and give him a few crickets and some baby food too. I have a leopard gecko and she does just fine.

its ok, but shouldnt ever be bred due to the tail kink. the gecko can live without toes, theyre probally in the stomach of a larger tankmate. you can keep it, and it will be fine, but thats all your decision. ive had animals with spine kinks live for years very happily. of course i do not breed these geckos due to stress, and possibility of genetic defects, but i do think your gecko will do perfectly fine.

not sure why you think it has a tail kink which would interfere with health, breeding or genetics?

any chance you could get a pic? probably had shed issues and lost the toes and damaged the tail.

repashy = GOOD
baby food = BAD

i'd say to soak the tail in warm water for a bit and see if that helps, because it looks like old shed, also get a q-tip and tweezers and gently try to cokes it off, i had a leo that had not been taken good care of and was missing most of her toes, and i frequently had to get old shed off her little stubby feet, Good Luck To Ya!
