what makes it a super dalmation?

mike1234 Aug 06, 2008 12:31 AM

ive been working with cresteds for a few years, and understand the morphs pretty well, but there is one i dont quite understand. what makes a dalmation crested super dalmation? im not a huge fan of dalmation cresteds, and would never breed it into my harleys(meaning all the little groups which have been made up, creamsicle etc), or my patternless ones either. that said, i do have dalmations, four of them, two actually have red spots, but i just dont understand why there are some out there called super dalmation?
thanks for taking your time to read my rant

I'm pretty sure "super dalmatian" is just dalmatian spots on a patternless, and with a lot of spots. Maybe pangea has a description of theirs on the site, but think thats it.

from what I remember a super dalmatian has quite a few large black spots all over them..instead of the more common smaller less populous spots.

Super Dalmatians

The Super Dalmatians are a line of geckos I have been working with now since 2002. I coined the term 'Super Dalmatian' to describe the heavy intense spotting that is characteristic of this line of geckos. The term has since caught on, and is now used throughout the hobby.

thanks a lot.. still dont really get why people have to do things like that but everyone does want their claim to fame in the world of reptiles.

I don't know that I have ever truly seen it defined either. But I will say that I have seen some with a tremendous/rediculous amount of spotting that I would even dub them Super Dal.

Im with you, I like clean patterns and I don't like to see spots in my Harleys. Some people rave about it but I think it takes away from the pattern of a harley or flame.

I LOVE a bicolor or flat color dal though! I am working on 2 red dals now. I am hopeful that the offspring will have more dal spots that the parents. We'll see

This is a SUPER Dalmatian. This is Ellsa, I obtained her when she was 3 days old. She is currently 42 grams. And I have actually counted her spots. Minus her body section. Her head, tail, and all four legs include 295 spots. I kept loosing count when I tried her body. I assume she has atleast 350+. Let me know what yall think.
