My San Diego Alligator Lizard

nirot Aug 24, 2008 10:02 AM

I named him Vicious. He's calmed down a bit since I've had him so the name doesn't fit as well. Found him near the town of California Hot Springs among sycamores and oaks right next to a creek. I grabbed him while he was looking for an opening between me and a Sierra Gartersnake. He is 17 or 18 inches long. I'm hoping to catch a bunch more soon for a breeding project.

Nice looking al!

Keep in mind that the posession limit is two if you're in California and you will need to get a captive propagation permit if you want to keep any babies produced. Even with the captive propagation permit, babies cannot be sold and will have to be given away.

There's no way I'll be obeying a law as minor, pointless, and poorly thought out as the alligator lizard possession limit. They're a common lizard and they can thrive even in urban areas. And you can only keep two? Then if the two you're allowed to have breed you can't keep the babies. Why then are you allowed to have two? It's ridiculous. I won't be selling them, but I'll keep, breed, trade, and give them away as I please. I wonder if they'd even know the amount to fine me if I got caught somehow.

It's people like you that make for stricter reptile laws.

the california law is rediculous i live in sandiego
and ive had atleast 5 at once even if the police pull up i highly doubt that they even know the law on alligator lizards

good luck on your breeding project though i heard that the east coast doesnt have alligator lizards and that they might pay a pretty penny for them over there

cheers
