Mourning Gecko hatchlings with adults?

ericR Oct 25, 2008 03:25 PM

HI,

Can eggs of Mourning Geckos (Lepidodactylus lugubris) be hatched in the adult vivarium without the adults eating the babies? Can different sizes be raised together? I have 3 adults (all females) in a 20 gal tall tank with many live plants and all 3 have laid eggs in the last few weeks. They laid the eggs inside a big peace of bamboo and I would like to leave that in the tank if it would work. Thanks for any reply.

Cheers, ericR

The offspring will definitely be subject to predation if left in the tank. The best bet is to provide good laying areas that are portable (small pieces of PVC, small fake plants, etc.). You really can't remove the eggs, they are glued pretty good. In your case you have two choices: let them hatch in place, and hope you can remove the offspring before they get eaten, or move the bamboo and eggs to another container for incubation.
