using flexwatt heat tape

shanemc88 Dec 11, 2008 10:49 PM

im looking on the beanfarm.com website for heat tape and i see different sizes for what im assuming is width. for a 6 ft long cage something around 24 inches was recommended, so would that be covering 2 ft of the entire length(so 2 feet out of 6 is heated)? And would i want the tape to extend the entire width of the cage too? To put this into a candy analogy, if the bottom of my cage was a hershey bar divided into thirds, [--|--|--] , would i want one third of the entire floor to be covered by the heat tape [--|--|HH]? with the H's representing the heat tape haha. Sorry this is such a complicated and drawn out explanation, i just want the best for whoever will live in there.

I use the 11 inch flexwatt for larger cages and place it under roughly the back third of the cage. For example, with my 8 foot by 3 foot cages, the 11 inch flexwatt runs under the rear one foot of the cage floor for the full 8 foot length. Gives them plenty of room to move off of it when they warm up.

I have a question about the flexwatt heat tape.

From what I saw, it's just a metal coil you plug in to the AC that heats up, I'm assuming it would last much longer than a standard light bulb (which is what I use) and also I would assume it uses much less electricity.

I replace my bulbs often, and my electric bill is really high.

Does the heat tape use less electricity and last longer?

Thanks,

MS
