Hey guys. I was just curious about something. Do people here soak their uros? I do not own a uro and am not even thinking about getting one...just simply curious. Thanks.

Ryan,
That's wax build up which excretes through the femoral pores.
It's perfectly normal and usually occurs around now (Spring) on
through the Summer or during breeding season. It occurs mainly
in males but also in some females.

Some believe the wax serves a purpose like marking/scenting
their territories during mating season. Others don't think it serves any purpose whatsoever.

If you clean/scrub his soiled ventral hind quarters, chances are
some or all the wax will simply fall off from the pores. If so, this will not bother him or affect his breeding season. Most keepers just ignore the waxy pores.

Good question btw,
John

Thanks so much John. I've just never seen it before and I've had him for some time now!! I thought I'd come here before going to the vet!!

Hi Ryan,
I meant to send the last post to the posted question
below ... sorry.

Yes sometimes it's easy to clean a really dirty uro
by soaking (and scrubbing) it in a warm soak. You
must take care in drying it off good before returning
it to it's cage though.

A warm soaking is also good for relieving intestinal
blockage while massaging it's belly while in a warm soak.

As far as regular soaking for no apparent reason,
I see no beneficial reason for doing so.

Interesting. So i guess they get most of their moisture through diet? Thanks for the response.
