Bredli Python keepers

timesender Jun 24, 2009 08:28 AM

I am thinking about getting a male. Does any one have first hand experience with this species?

How big do the get?
What 's their temperment? I have read that they are very docile.
How do the compare with the boa constrictor (BCI)?

Alternate suggestions?

I am looking for a docile snake that is some what girthy and grows between 5 -8 feet. The Bredli seems to be the closest other than the boa.

Well, you got the right species then.

My '06 male is a BEAST and great with kids. The only thing is that he has an UNREAL feeding response- more so than any of my kings or olive, and hits HARD. Once you get him out of his enclosure, he mellows out really quick and is an absolute joy!

I keep debating on whether or not to sell him to focus on some of the other species I want to get into, then I take him out and those thoughts stop.

He's probably pushing 6-7' now, and without question, the one with the most girth of my whole collection.

Jungles carpets would meet your criteria, too...

You cant go wrong with any carpet, bredlis are a very good beginner snake, besides the feed response, but they never turn down food!!

Out of all the carpets I got, the bredli's and IJ's were the only babies that didn't try to eat me.

Hey Todd - Awesome pics of your Bredli, he's just gorgeous.

I just got a pair of baby Bredls (see pic below) and the girl is VERY nippy. I don't mind getting tagged a few times, and after a few minutes outside the enclosure she calms down, but she's only 4 months old right now. Definitely don't want to get tagged by a 4 year old, 6-7 foot long, hungry female... Just wondering what tips you have to not get bit when you're taking yours out of his enclosure? Have you taught him some kind of signal so he knows it's not feeding time?

I'm not overly concerned about this, and I'm absolutely PSYCHED to be keeping Bredl's, but if you have any tips for making life more pleasant for them and me as they grow up, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks - Ed

Bredli are great to work with. They do have a good feeding response, but be careful not to over feed. As with any snake species there are dosile animals and not so dosile animals it depends on the individual (snake and or owner)and how you work with them. good luck
