Another Gravid Dipso! Please HELP!

Rosebuds Jun 27, 2009 07:46 PM

A few months ago, my Mauzi became gravid, so I built her a sand cave, and I increased the calcium supplements. Well, she paced for a day or two, but never started digging and she really didn't spend much time in the cave. She just got very depressed, looked miserable for a few days, and died. I think this might have been her first time.

So now I another wc female, probably an older one, that is obviously gravid. I have her set up in a tank that is half sand cave. She sleeps in that cave and is eating very well, but I am really worried that she will retain her eggs as well. Since this girl seems to like her cave, will she likely be okay or is there something else that I need to do?? Any advice would be appreciated.

I peeked under the slate and there is a hole that leads down, so I am very hopeful that she will lay and be fine. She is eating ravenously this morning.

Do dipsos cover the tunnel/cave hole after they lay?

I'm very sorry for your loss of your female. I don't have any experience with gravid desert iguanas but I hope your girl lays her eggs soon.

Hopefully this girl will be okay if you see a tunnel, because desert iggies like to burrow. I am sorry to hear about the lose of your other female.

Babys are fun, and really adorable in all species, but sometime problems with our girls occur and it makes things quite sad! Let us know how this girl does, Donna

heat is key! what temps are you keeping her at night and day. do you have full spectrum lighting. are you heating from the top or bottom? i would definitely heat from the top so not to cook her bottom. they need a lot of heat. i would have a basking area on a rock of 105. then a cooler cave on opposite side of cage. they need diverse foods. dandelion flowers, chopped cactus,( crickets a little) they mainly eat plants though.

She is in a Desert/Semi desert setup. Basking is 110 measured with a temp gun, basking light is a mercury vapor uvb bulb, and diet is the best greens for herbivores(collareds, turnip, mustard, bok choy, endive, radicchio, dandelion when it is available, hibiscus, etc.). I offered bugs, but she wasn't interested. She does have a cool side. These where the conditions that I kept Mauzi in as well, but Mauzi did not dig a tunnel or even spend time in her cave, so I hope things will be different with this girl.

She is in the tunnel, so I hope she comes out much thinner, and hungry!

Now, if she lays and all goes well, what are good incubating temps?

How is your girl doing?

She pretty much sleeps in that cave, and is still eating a little, so I just don't know. I wish she would either lay or reabsorb!

Thanks for all of the great advice! LOL!

Just teasing.

The eggs were infertile, so after she fattens up and restores calcium levels, I plan to switch males and see if the young stud is more appealing to the lady.
