Smallest Morelia?

Danne Sep 02, 2009 10:40 AM

I was wondering what's the smallest Morelia python that's findable in captivity. I'd love one for a display tank but am only 5'3" and 120 lbs so I like to try and keep it as small as possible.

irian jayas aka west papuan would probly be your best bet but a next step would be a male jungle carpet, i would compare the size of irian jaya to rainbow boas roughly wich i see you already have and jungle being a little larger tho i have seen some jungles especially females get 7-8 foot no prob

Even though they're 100% arboreal, Green Trees are now "morelia"!

Thanks guys! I'll have to check them out! And the GTPs seem cool but I've heard they're a little troublesome personality wise (or is that only for WC?). Maybe I'll be up for the challenge though since they're so gorgeous

most he problems you hear about GTP is from the older days of all WC animals and things like that, there is ALOT more captive breeding of them now days and seem less troublesome than use to be, HOWEVER they are still nippy and if you are looking for a snake to hold more often and not worry as much a irian jaya would be better. There is however a rise of "docile" green trees and would suggest hitting up the tree python forum for more info about them.
