found this guy and need to get him/her the best life it can get... (found on a heavy traffic street)... but have no idea about tortoises. just need to know type so i could do my reaserch. and additional info taken alwell. Please help me and this shelled friend of ours, thanks

It is a tortoise in the Gopherus genus. I'd need to know where you are to tell you species.

I live in the foothills of los angeles crest mountain range, thats in southern california, Pasadena to be exact. i think it might have had human help to get to where im at (lot of streets between me and natural eco.) can i find care sheets or anymore info on this genus/species. any special laws? i want to know all i can before i take more steps. thanks again, sorry for the late reply..

It's a Desert tortoise, Gopherus agassizii. You can't release it and you will need a permit for it. You can get in-touch with your closest chapter of the California Turtle & Tortoise Club and they will help you through the permit process. http://www.tortoise.org/cttcmemb.html

Release it. I don't know the exact laws but desert tortoises are highly protected in California.
