New Guinea Sideneck Eating feces....???

zx14 Jan 19, 2010 12:45 PM

I have recently noted my NGSN (E. Novaeguinea) turtle eating her feces immediatly upon its release. She feeds strictly on a variety of six to eight different pellet foods and shows no sign of interest in fish at all???? I put feeder guppies in there months ago and all they did was reproduce from 6 to over 40 fish. I had to remove them from the enclosure. Her shell length is easily close to six inches now and she currently resides in her own 38 gallon aquarium (not forever ).....is this normal or a sign of a deficiency? I am more of a snake guy and have no really serious experience with turtles for like 15 years or more...HELP!!!!

Try feeding her some greens like red leaf or bibb lettuce, even the shells of green pea pods or Chinese pea pods. She is likely lacking in some type of nutrition since she is only eating commercial turtle pellet foods.

It in not unheard of for turtles to eat feces, although it is usually not an everyday occurance.
