This article is not about snakes it about advertizers using fear to sell products but it dicsusses why people respond to fear and it is getting worse. I think the same stratagy is being used to sell agendas (Fear of snakes and guilt about the environment)just as it is being used to sell products!

Human nature. Same as scarcity breeds demand. The fear of limited or nonexistent resources in the near future, creates a huge demand. As in, when grocery store shelves are empty and gas pumps have run dry prior to an eminent natural disaster...Hurricane for instance. Uncertainty breeds hoarding.
