Yabba Dabba Doooooooooo!
Woke up to a great surprise! Freckles finally laying her eggs! Here is a pic of the 1st one, shes layed another since then. Both look very healthy, big, and definitely fertile. All those rats helped that I'd bet. I watched the second one swell up and begin to breath within minutes of being layed how cool is that! I'm guessing/hopin she lays about 8 eggs for me total.

Still waiting on some Gila luck but shes looking good so I got hope.

Thanks again to Steve Angeli for the awesome lizards and Dr Seward for sharing all the knowledge n support. I am one satisfied lizard fanatic this morning!

Congrat's! I'm hoping for some eggs soon myself. I have some(4) 4-5 year olds that I have my fingers crossed on. Kinda laughed when I read your post that yours layed eggs this morning. I have a younger pair that is just under 3 years old. I have always had them caged individually all of their life and while cleaning cages last night, I found it easier to just stick one into the other cage while I cleaned the cage. The now known male immediately chased the other rio (now known female) around the cage and showed very aggressive mating behavior. I decided to just leave them together and sure enough I woke up this morning and found them locked up. The animals have never been cooled in their lives. I'm really doubting eggs given their age of under 3 yrs old and the fact that neither has been cooled. To my understanding that is necessary to make the sperm of the males potent. Guess you never know, but atleast I know now they are a definite pair and the male is a definite stud. I will post some pics of all soon.

Thanks! Wouldn't count those young lizards out bro! I'm fairly certain this is a more normal breeding time for beadeds. My girl thought she was a gila monster! I wanted to see how early I could produce lizards to get one over on the competition eventually. I may pair up some my other lizards this week too.

I don't think a dramatic cooling is needed for beadeds at all. I brumated mine for 2 1/2 months at room temps in my basement 65-75 degrees, my male was obviously fertile.

This females only 2 1/2 years old. I fed her really well her whole life, still I'd say shes only 75% grown. She layed 9 eggs total all but one are healthy. I definitely took its toll on her though. I'd reccomend waiting another year for others. Very few people respect the metabolic demand of a beaded. IMO

Good luck! Don't beleive all the hype!

If it works out I definitely will give her a year off. As I mentioned it was a fluke. I was concentrating on my larger group of 4 and not these at all. I cooled my larger animals to 60-62 for 3 months, Dec 1st to March 1st. I'm not positive on their sex's so I've been experimenting introducing them as an entire group, individually, etc. I did learn one of them as a female thanks to my young aggressive stud...lol
My young female I have to post a pic of. She blows me away. She has a little dry skin on top. She is a Steve Angeli animal. I aquired her through someone that used to purchase many animals from him. I was told she was one of if not the best prospect of her year and as you can see from the photo...it's beleivable. She has the classic rib bars and lots of solid yellowing. Here are some piocs of them breeding and a pic of her alone. Take care.

Thats a great looking rio. Its patterned a whole lot like Freckles...bet he paid top dollar for her too!
Angeli is has great genetics, we dont get along at all
though ... His high yellow lines are great and his animals are really robust if fed right. His very very best are really high yellow n side barred with the perfect bullseyes down the back. Those super blacks do nothing for me. Just my humble opinion.

I'm excited n proud my early breeding experiment worked! Couple years down the road its gonna be an asset in a competitive market if I have lizards ready in November and most beadeds don't hit the market until Feb!

SSSSSUP?
I brumated mine at 65-75f for two months from Dec-Jan, they never went into any sort of hibernation like my gilas do.
...Febuary 1st warmed um to normal 85-88f started the feeding them a ton couple days after. Basically fed them all they could eat until they backed off on thier own about mid April.
I started trying to pair up animals mid April n my first lock up was April 25th. My males became restless restless at this time I kinda wonder if my beadeds n Gilas didn't sync up in one colony sort of. I was determining some animals sexes and my males did have muzzled combat the day before the breeding...fyi***
They bred multiple times a day over about a week to ten day period, then she began apparently avoiding him, so I separated them. I noticed her swell up noticably about a week after her last mating. Just my experience this first season trying to breed heloderms I could be way off somehow still.

Well my eggs are close to half done and are still looking good! i'm getting excited. Been laying low this summer fighting health problems and beefing up my Gila and Rio colonies. I've got some interesting and extremly unique beaded genetics on loan that with luck will really add something interesting to the publics gene pool in the future. These animals simply rock and are as close to hypo as I can imagine without being actually hypo. Gonna make a lot of folks jealous when I finally show them off! lol
