The first part of the last film in the harry potter series is being released to theaters friday, and Voldemort's pet snake looks like a common morph of a retic... do you think the movie will increase the sales of retics? (some of which i am sure would be to people who don't know what they are getting into)

Wow, what are the odds (?) i was about post the exact same thing here.
In my opinion, it's quite possible, although we could have raised the same question on burms a few years back, when the first chapter was released, and nothing significant was noticed. You see, the life span of a movie nowadays is short; it stays in theaters for 3 or 4 weeks and then something cooler comes along (sign of the times, i guess). So, the age of kids having their minds stuck on something in particular is gone. These days, everything is a rapid fade, and what is "cool" changes monthy. Relax, this month retics are "awesome"... next month it will be aliens and then zombies and then tarantulas and then... you get the idea

I was thinking the same thing as well. But my thought was more that this would increase some peoples' fears of large constrictors; depicting them as evil. People still do believe snakes are related to evil forces, the Devil, etc.

On the other hand, after the first couple films came out with the burm, people I interacted with recognized the burms we had as "being from the movie" and approached it in confidence and admiration.

It all depends on the person!
