Breeding rattlesnakes

amtzzero Dec 17, 2010 10:10 PM

Hi everyone, I just wanted to know, is the "formula" for breeding western diamondbacks the same as the one for breeding colubrids (cool them in the winter, warm them up/feed them a lot in the spring, then introduce them)? Or do rattlers breed at different times of the year? How would I go about doing this? I've had rattlers and other venemous in the past, but now I'm interested in breeding them. Thanks in advance for any replies.

For C. atrox you can cycle them like you do your colubrids... Make sure you give them alittle more time to empty their stomachs once you stop feeding for the year than you do colubrids... colubrids are fine at 2 weeks.. I like to give my crotalids at least 4 weeks... Hope that helps...

Some people don't even intentionally "cool" their snakes. Some people just put a male and female together and their snake room temperature naturally fluctuates with the outside weather which is apparently good enough to stimulate the male and female to breed. I've heard of at least one case of this off the top of my head but I'm sure there are more.
