Haha...just keep at them.
How often are you assisting them? Do you try to leave anything in the cage after an assist?

Love the Aspidites....they rule.

hey derek, i leave a live new born rat pup in after an assist feed....

at the moment i am giving them an adult rat tail or a pinky rat every 6 days

Cool.
Try leaving smaller items....like a pinky or fuzzy mouse.
I've found they'll take smaller items quicker than larger ones.

Remember, it's not so much about "getting food in them" as it is just to get them to eat on their own.
Also, I've noticed that when assisted every other day....or everyday even....they'll go much quicker.

cheers derek, iv been leaving a newborn or day old live pinkie rat in each tub after a feed, ill bump up theyre feeds in a week or two as i suppose the bigger they get the easyer it will be for them to come online, ill have to go buy some pinkie mice

Another trick you can do is....
Take a baby Woma shed (fresh) and push the pinks down in the skin....like a hot dog.
Cut and twist the ends, leave in cage over night....had a bunch start that way.

I've had excellant luck with baby hamsters on first feedings. They look like little fat grubs after that, lol

imbricata Feb 23, 2011 09:29 PM

Woma's are so cool. They got great temperments, incredible feeding responses and the best is that they're always cruising their cages during the day. Good choice!

nice little woma's i cant wait to pick up some more

First off beautiful womas!! Are they locality specific??

For the blackhead I start my weekly feedings off by dropping in hot mouse pinks, mouse fuzzies, rat pinks and a baby quail chick (not sure if you have anything similar available in Oz as feeders) and then I feed everything else with at least 2-3 hours of things to do I give them some time. I go back in and check them and if they have fed it is usally on everything and they look like a sausage, if not I assist fed one item by getting the head of the mouse fuzzie or. Most of the pink in their mouth and hoping they swallow. The rat tails are good for this too as they can have enough in their mouth that they won't spit it out and you can leave them with maybe a pink or two as well to see if they keep eating.

If they do not eat I give them a few days and offer the same assortment again but left over night. I have not had luck with live but I don't try it often. I am not sure which food item gets them feeding but once they start they usually will take any two items offered together and eventually any one item. I tried adding BTS shed when I had them but that didn't help but I am sure some of the geckos over there could lend a shed to success...

cheers for the advice re-bhps ill give it a go we get mice and rats of course here but also japanese quail so ill try fresh killed rat pups with snake shed then ill try leave a smorgas board like you do they are bound to come online sooner or later they are growing just with the adult rat tails which is good

the woma's are indeed locality specific... rockhampton downs the have a fantastic reduced pattern on the neck and wonderfull colouring with clean even markings as they get older

They are a great species. It seems that any snake from that island is great =)
