...biggest corn snake I have ever seen

gizzy20001 Jan 30, 2012 03:24 PM

I just picked up the biggest corn snake I have ever seen, She (I Assume its a she) measures out at about 5 ft and she is as big around as our ball python. I think that this is a wild type, or at least this is what I would think a wild one looks like. my concern is with her weight, especially near the vent. any ideas would be great.

Wow that snake is FAT.

I wouldnt feed that thing for a year haha

As for the swelling its either a stuck egg or about to take a huge crap. Maybe a good soaking would help.

Thanks

my first thought was egg binding when I saw it, but there is no mass there, it's soft and squishy kinda, so it's probably just fat build up. I hoping if she is just fat the getting her prego might pull some of her overweight down. (maybe the developing eggs will use up some of her body fat?)

Actually, they're more likely to get egg bound when they are that obese. I wouldn't breed her until she loses a significant amount of weight.

ok thanks for the heads up

Good night..that poor thing is fat.

I would not even bother breeding. No sense in putting her in any kind of potential egg-binding danger.

The swelling is fatty deposits. They often occur near the tail of overweight snakes. As the other have said, that snake needs to go on a diet. I would not use it for breeding unless it lost weight and gained muscle tone.

She will not be used as a breeder until she is back in good health, what would be a good diet to set her on, all my other snakes get offered food weekly, and many of them often turn that down, luckily my anacondas are natures garbage disposals and will eat any thing the other snakes turn down.

I would probably do 1 large mouse once every 3 weeks, and plenty of exercise.

Honestly, just so you know, it is very possible she will not lose that weight. Once that type of weight is on, it can be hard to get rid of.

But, it does not hurt to try, and I would start trying now.
